THE SMART METER PROGRAMME
AND ITS CHALLENGES

The UK government has set a goal for 26 million UK homes to have a Smart Meter by 2020.

Due to changes in the release plans for Data Communications Company (DCC) services, there will be a hybrid of meter specifications supported across both SMETS 1 and SMETS 2. Although you may already have a deep understanding of running your own meter estate, operating SMETS 1 meters over a DCC interface could provide challenges.  In addition, you need to be able to support meters and communications hub equipment adopted via a change of supplier process, providing additional challenges - especially with regards to knowledge and testing expertise.

CACI can assist you - whether you work for a big 6 energy supplier or a smaller energy company.  

We have, and are, delivering Smart Meter testing services to a number of providers including Innogy/nPower on their Smart Meter programme & Smart Meters Device Assurance (SMDA).  We are now deploying our services to more customers with a need for SMETS 1 and SMETS 2 testing expertise.

The technology is mature and the SEC Release 2 of the network means that SMETS 1 and SMETS 2 meters need to be running over DCC infrastructure by the end of 2018.  If you need to accelerate your Smart Meter programme then you need to contact us.

CACI were able to bring deep knowledge on device testing onto the nPower team across both SMETS 1 and SMETS 2 technologies and have been a great asset on the nPower Smart Meter Programme.  

In helping scale our test operations, CACI quickly deployed test leads, device testers and test analysts with the right mix of skills in SMETS 2 and SMETS 1 device testing.
