CACI commissioned London Economics to conduct a study into the likely economic impact of GDPR on UK businesses.

In March 2017, the ICO published draft guidance on the consent provisions of GDPR. CACI felt these guidelines went further than the text of GDPR: there is a complete ban on opt-out consent and a requirement to name all third parties that will rely on consent.

CACI commissioned independent economic forecasting house, London Economics (LE), to carry out research to measure the possible economic impact. Their findings include:

  • There is likely to be less data available to companies for marketing, particularly customer recruitment
  • Profits attributable to data analytics could decrease by up to  £41m in the UK
  • Profits attributable to prospecting for customers could decrease by up to £114m
